INTERNATIONAL GUITAR MONTH STRIKES A CHORD IN MILLSBERRY
Are you amped for April? Well, get ready because it's International Guitar Month, and Millsberry's guitar owners are tuning their strings and getting set to rock.
Like us, readers may not have heard of this month-long event. However, the celebration has been around for quite some time—not as long as the modern guitar itself, which has been around for thousands of years—and is celebrated worldwide. One source explained that the idea behind International Guitar Month is to promote a whole month of pure guitar indulgence: lessons, concerts, festivals, the works.
And how will Millsberry get down? With a little help from Darren Lancaster, lead singer of the Wheels band, and genuine guitar guru. For our interview, we found him clad in black leather pants and a black leather jacket, inside his studio, hanging with the rest of his band.
Gazette: "Darren! We are so excited to have you back in Millsberry. What do you have in store for us to help celebrate your favorite event of the year?"
Darren: "We'll be having mini concerts every week as we finish our new album. Some shows will be at Toys, Tricks, and Games, and Peabody Park. And we'll finish off the month with the completed album, Through the Mill and Back. All in all, I've just been happy shredding with my band!"
Gazette: "Everyone is going to be jazzed about that! Why don't you tell us a little more about shredding?"
Darren: "Oh, it's just rockin' out as fast you can on the electric guitar! Wanna try?"
Gazette: "Ha! Do you have earplugs? So—what was your first guitar?"
Darren: "A little plastic ukulele, when I was seven. I would play it and pretend I was in Hawaii. Then, when I finally made it to Hawaii, on tour, I bought my favorite "guitar" of all—a keytar [see picture]!"
Gazette: "Oh, come on, Darren. You can't play an instrument with no strings attached—not this month!"
Darren: "Ha! Not even an air guitar? Anyway, I just think everyone should have the opportunity to learn an instrument—and the guitar is one of the easiest to pick up."
Well, you heard it from our very own guitar hero—International Guitar Month is in full swing. Get ready to tango, flamenco, and rock out. And who knows? Millsberry may never be the same again, thanks to this wild month-long jam. Can you already hear that out-of-tune strumming?!
